When children experience challenges in the development of their gross motor coordination skills, this can impact their academic success and advancement. Gross motor skills are needed when kids sit and participate in the classroom, play in PE or on the playground, walk onto and down the aisle of a school bus, transition between stations within a classroom, take off a coat or backpack, and carry off a lunch tray in the cafeteria.

Gross motor coordination therapy helps children learn to use their large muscle groups in a controlled movement pattern that includes their abdomen, arms, and legs. If a child struggles with core muscle strength, body balance, body awareness, or overall body coordination, this can lead to reduced levels of attention, focus, and overall participation in school.

Our gross motor coordination therapy increases mindfulness and conscious self-control, gradually moving towards automatic use of motor coordination, in which children learn to move through actions without even thinking of the movements they are doing. We help children develop the ability to balance and coordinate their bodies automatically, without having to think about these movements or actions. And when this happens, children have a greater opportunity to focus on their teacher as well as the higher-level skills and concepts taught in the classroom.
