Pediatric Occupational Therapy at Omni Kids

Omni Kids’ Occupational Therapy team is trained in a wide variety of skills to help children thrive and become the most functional they can be in their daily lives. We often say, “We help kids feel good in their bodies and help them do the things that are hard for them.” We provide parent education, one-on-one child therapy, and curriculums to help children master developmental milestones, behavioral and sensory coping strategies, confidence in motor skills to keep up with their peers, visual motor treatments, emotional regulation, academic confidence, and daily life skills (dressing, toilet training, eating, hygiene, etc.). Our goal is to decrease the stress for not only the child but the whole family dynamic.

What is Occupational Therapy for Kids?

Occupational therapy (OT) for kids is a specialized area of therapy that focuses on helping children develop the skills they need to perform everyday activities or "occupations" to the best of their abilities. These occupations can include activities such as playing, learning, socializing, self-care tasks (e.g., dressing, eating), and school-related activities.

Occupational therapists who work with children assess various aspects of a child's development, including motor skills, sensory processing, cognitive abilities, social skills, and emotional regulation. Based on their assessments, therapists develop individualized treatment plans to address specific challenges and help children improve their functional abilities.

The Benefits of Pediatric Occupational Therapy

Image

Self Confidence

Pediatric occupational therapy fosters self-confidence by providing children with opportunities to master daily tasks and activities, such as dressing themselves or completing school assignments. Through consistent progress and achievement, children develop a sense of competence and belief in their abilities, leading to improved self-esteem and confidence in tackling new challenges.

Greater Independence

Occupational therapists work collaboratively with children to develop the skills necessary for greater independence in various aspects of their lives, such as self-care, social interactions, and academic tasks. By teaching strategies and techniques tailored to each child's needs, OT empowers them to perform tasks independently, promoting a sense of autonomy and self-reliance that extends beyond therapy sessions into daily routines.

Emotional Regulation

Pediatric occupational therapy incorporates techniques to help children understand and manage their emotions effectively. Therapists may use sensory-based interventions, mindfulness practices, and social skills training to teach children how to identify, express, and regulate their feelings in different situations. By acquiring these coping skills, children can navigate challenges with greater resilience, leading to improved emotional stability and overall well-being.
