Emotional regulation is fundamentally a child’s ability to manage stress. This is a skill all of us have to develop during our childhood years.

For children who have autism, anxiety, ASD, ADHD, early childhood trauma, SPD, and other special needs, developing their emotional regulation skills can be very challenging. Having low emotional regulation skills can play a major factor in social issues, meltdowns, problems at school, problems in the family, negative behavior, high levels of anxiety, and as kids grow up, even addictions and trouble maintaining healthy relationships with friends and family.

Our emotional regulation therapy provides children with tools to identify their emotions and learn how to self-regulate those emotions. We focus on helping children learn to connect their emotions to their behavior, to learn to be patient and mentally flexible in different situations and to know how to be able to appropriately share their feelings and concerns with others. We help them in the areas of impulse control, task initiation, working memory, ability to focus and pay attention, metacognition, and being persistent in a healthy way.
